PARADISE BEACH                                                          next>

“the people in the beach is merely an excuse for enjoyment through the creative process and the use of color….  To combine colors that create new textures". "The beach is a universal subjet, symbol and subjet, so it’s presence in my work means the representation of an image for the contemporary culture”. ”For the artist, painting is merely rejoicing through the pictured matter, paint brushing and the 'Educational child play' side of it". "Somehow this is an attempt to return to the aim of my art. Remembrances… childhood… childplay... feelings and emotions… sun and light... air and water… All of them will be permanent subjects of my work"…”

"My works, more than a reflection of myself, are messages, models directed to the inner-self of each spectator". This is the reason given by Carlos Sanchez Vegas about the beach as subject of his new work, performed at the Gallerie CHIZ.

This artist refuses to be classified as painter and thinks that the art is, or can be part of everything. He understands painting like the sum of "the dominion of techniques, research, literary knowledge, philosophy and culture that must be combined to conform the sensible but critic spirit of a true artist.  This is what differentiates a real artist from an artist retailer; reason why he not only dedicates to painting, but also handles the languages of photography, architecture, sculpture, installation and writing.

He has understood and assumes this conception. His work does not remain in the images, but in the creation of live images in which the public not only sees what is shaped but contributes to the artistic process:  their own perception of the painting, what they want to see, their particular interpretation and, the reflection of themselves.

The works of Sanchez Vegas are in a certain way a form of self-portrait?  Egocentrism?

"No, simply the exteriorización of a part of my personality.  My drawings are joyful, complex and simple at the same time, shiny and snazzy; part of myself.  I have wanted to express what I feel, to expose it, although with it I risk my vulnerability.  I understand art like this:  show what I really feel, what I really am.  I have also wanted to give shape to the impression that my country’s beautiful beaches provide (the thematic axis). I have transformed them and in them I have seen the game, the infantile diversion in which the sea is always present ".

A work in where the outline of the color péncil is emphasized, drippings and splotches of ink, bright image transparencies of strong, forceful and strange colors reflect the creative process of Carlos Sanchez Vegas.  The result is not only the product of research and the execution of a new technique but the reflection from our spirit.

In this new proposal, Sanchez recreates the reality, observes the bodies in movement, the infinite game of the waves, happening in the absolute and white light of the tropic and  the shade of the opposite sign.  Carlos draws, paints and photographs everything he finds:, sands, stones, woods, people.  All is recreated in its drawings and removed from the field of view with the objective of his camera.

A CD with photographs taken in Venezuelan beaches and a set of 50 arts works, are the content of "PARADISE BEACH:  the imaginary beach."

Some pending exhibitions, and a new pictorial subject, are the immediate plans of this artist, whom invites to us to enjoy his new work in the Gallerie CHIZ.
